By Izo Hashimoto and Akio Tanaka starts off with the main character, Ryo Narushima, going ER on his parents and gets sent to juvenile prison where he gets booty called against his will.

In juvie he gets introduced to karate by a Yukio Mishima type fascist that tried to kill a government official. In Shamo, martial arts are basically survival. It’s brutal and desperate.

The manga follows Ryo as he gets released and tries, and fails miserably, to reintegrate into society and find his sister who became a prostitute.

Some of the arcs in Shamo are:
1. Juvie Arc
2. Heavyweght arc
3. Underground Kung Fu Arc
4. Demon vs Angel
5. Redemption

I've read a few and this is definitely my favorite and I genuinely think one of the best of all time. I think you'll enjoy it because it's not like your average manga at all while at the same time not being cliche or edgy for the sake of being edgy.
It's also not preachy and was not afraid to make the protag a total dirtbag which is rare af in ALL types of media.

If it's Plato's Republic you are talking about you should def read Selective Breeding and the birth of philosophy afterwards.

Plato's republic can work in theory but long term it will always fail due to human nature being inherently greedy and egotistic. There are even some theories that Plato didn't even exist and he was just a persona created by the elite of that time period to explains their ideals and goals similar to how in recent times you see things being hinted at in the media before it happened.
Selective Breeding and The Birth of Philosophy expounds on what philosophy's goal is and how all philosophy aims towards tyranny.
Philosophers are descendants of the ancient shaman/magus caste which controlled the group through superstition and ingraining their beliefs into others through it.
Philosophers aim to do the same thing but purely through rhetoric, Socrates was executed because it was taught he corrupted the youth. One of his disciples, Citrias, outright wanted to overthrow the social order through the sword.
Even when you look at the most "virtuous" of philosophers such as stoics you can observe that any time they got their little self righteous paws on some political power they always produced a Commodus or a Nero.

Bro ive read it the shit loses it after the training arc in the mountains, uses all the build up for the fight against the angel guy legitimately doesn't change ryo at all, then the final arc, The main villans are two looney tunes characters that mean nothing.

Yeah, after the china arc they change the main writer which is why the story decreseas in quality. I still think it's worth reading even after the China arc though.

Yeah that's what happens when the artist gets thr rights to the story instead of the writer. All he had to do is bring back Sugaware (the hw karate champ) and focus more on Ryo's finding his sister and trying to "regain" his humanity.
