i havent seen hollow cheeks as a result of this. it doesnt make the maxilla wide enough and doesnt make it the right shape. wide maxilla as in hunter gatherers will lead to wider palate, but the maxilla is even more wider above the palate. so focusing on expanding the palate wont give hollow cheeks, a wide palate is not good for hollow cheeks the upper maxilla is key.

note that palate expanders always expand the lower maxilla (palate) much more than the upper. its essentially rotating the two halves of maxilla outward and upward.
