I started running last week (having done basically no excercise throughout my life + alcohol + hard drugs ocasionally + used to smoke), and am surprisingly good at it. Did 10 km/ 6.5 miles in 45 minutes first time running, and wasn't exausted, and today I managed to do 12.5 km / 8 miles in 53 minutes and still somewhat chilling.

A friend of mine who did both runs with me and who's been running since highschool told me those are very good numbers for a beginner and that I might be able to get really good if I do it more often. I've really liked doing it so far and want to see if were I can take it.

The thing is that long distance runners look like holocaust survivors so I wanna avoid descending like that. I'm already fairly lean so getting leaner won't ascend me. Will I be descended if I do it too seriously? How can I avoid it not to be ridiculously chopped? If I'm sure to become subhuman I may not.
