Side effects suck, I was prescribed SSRI's they made me limp dicked and bloated

Yeah it did but my mood was more flatline than healthy. I remember being in the psychiatric ward watching TV shows for hours whilst feeling completely numb.

It felt more as if my threshold for what makes me happy was lowered so I was fine with less, which yes, undoubtedly made me feel better.

It fixed most things wrong with me at the time

Journaling, eating healthy, working out, getting a new hobby.

It sounds like garbage advice your mom would give you, but give it an earnest shot and I will guarantee you that you will feel somewhat better.
