Wisdom teeth removal in relation to bonesmashing

My dentist just recommended me for a wisdom teeth removal, I've heard mixed reactions with some people saying it nuked their jaw while others say that it somehow made them look better. I'm not denying that its obviously anecdotal but how can I determine whether or not it will recess me. Also how long after the treatment should I wait until I start to bonesmash again
