Majority of modern morality derives itself from christian ethics, a christian can uphold a logical thought pattern for why things are moral or not, an atheist does not as morality is subjective in a non religious context, look at how different man was in antiquity and you will see how people do not have some natural inborn instinct for morality but are shaped by the cultures and religions of their day, if baby sacrifice was a moral good in your religion and culture and you grew up where it was seen as a moral good you would believe that too and fully support it you would not have some inborn instinct against it
