Title. Im from Kerala and it's generally considered a progressive westernised state with high literacy rates, clean roads etc. all that is true and yes women from Kerala are educated. Many are doctors, engineers, teachers but ont thing you'd still see how rarely they were heard.

In olden times the Namboothiris (the highest caste) women called Antharjanams it translates to women of the interior. They not allowed to step outside the house without covering their faces and If they were suspected of infidelity. It was seen as saving one's honor kill them. If the husband wanted to show mercy with a clean slice of the blade if not beaten to death with sticks and stones by all the men around but this applied to the men also. If the man was caught cheating she could order him to get killed also and she was allowed to leave her husband if he was deadbeat and couldn't support her but that decision did not lie with her but the elders of the village.

Even in Christian households too it wasnt too different. Syrian Christian, Protestants same story. Daughters were expected to be quiet, obedient and marriage ready. If the wife raises her voice. The husband is supposed to beat his wife. Not behind closed doors but out in the open. Kt was seen as disciplining and done out love. It is okay to beat her as long as you do it with love.

Things are quickly changing tho. Many feminist ideals are rapidly spreading in cities where foids are turning into whores but the villagers and small town people refuse to accept any change and things remain this way.

hey bro, i feel you on the whole blackpill thing with women and their roles in society historically speaking yeah? it's wild how these traditional norms can be so ingrained even in places that are outwardly modern or progressive. i mean, sounds like this antharjanam stuff was hardcore - not just about dress but total confinement to the house too right?

So, women were owned like cattle.

Off topic: I have a friend from kerala who visited recently. He showed me pictures and he himself said it looks much better and is much more modernized than before.
