They actually don't have a childhood. These are generations who immigrated with their mother but without their father to Pakistan and Iran during the Soviet-Afghan war, while the father stayed behind to fight as Mujahedeen, then they came back in the late 90s and they were better rulers then the local Mujahedeen groups cuz they banned rape and thievery (cut limbs if thief). They had no money and so they enrolled in free religious Islamic schools in Pakistan and Iran, Talib actually means something like "student". This is also why the Taliban are more Islamic and a different kind of Islam then there traditionally was in Afghanistan, so that means much more brutal Shari'a law

That's the case at least for the Taliban who came in the mid 90s - early 2000s
