No they'd rather overestimate their sexual marekt value wanting to be with the top despite looking average or alternatively whine about the other sex doing so or condemn it for other things.

It's something H.G. Wells touched on very well in his book The Open Conspiracy. That when you change the social conditions that women operate under such as access to education and lucrative employment, they will forego child rearing in favor of casual sex and "fun". The famous Jaffe Memo also went into depth about this topic.

So many women have begun treating me like a sexual predator when I'd start flirting. Entirely because they don't know anyone that knows me very well. They can't see the last 5 years of my life on social media to judge me so I'm instantly labelled as malicious. Women don't believe good looking men don't use social media without being psychopaths and criminals. If you cold approach a woman that's a good way for them to tell everyone you tried to accost them.

The average woman does not want the average man.
The data is pretty clear on that. Average Men are willing to settle for the average woman but women are not willing to settle for the average man. Women want an above average man - they are biologically conditioned for that. In the past they would be forced to settle, since the above average men would end up getting married at some point and there would be nobody else left among their acquaintances, but online dating has made the world more connected, so they'll more easily find an above average mate. Also, society no longer promotes monogamy, pre- and extramarital sex is no longer shamed, so the high tier men never leave the dating pool and since men are not nearly as picky, average women will end up having sexual access to above average men - who never stay however, making them lonely and miserable in the long run, or at worst: single mothers.
