benefits of 1990s japan:
- internet exists
- good amount of home technology
- normal society, not doomer lifestyled

downsides
- its not france
- language barrier since most people didnt know english in 90s japan

I'm going with France because I know the language and also because I can have Korean halo in the streets of the 15th arrondissement. but how is Japanese food a downside? Too little portions?

It's hard to choose from a socio/economic/political standpoint though. France was caught in the middle of the Cold War "battleground," so to speak. But Japan was mired in the Asian financial crisis during the 1990s.
