there’s obviously benefits to having no console, like more time for useful hobbies, not fucking up dopamine receptors, focusing on school instead but you gotta factor in them possibly becoming a social retard and having a fear of missing out sensation when their friends are online

It'll be impossible for him to not have his dopamine receptors fucked up at some point.

A console is no problem. The real hell is smartphone addiction. I don't want him to be one of those kids who are 200 pounds at age 13, stares at a screen 14 hours a day and has no physical hobbies whatsoever.

It will lead to a devastating dating life once he hits 16-18 and overall will just create a spiral of depression.

If he wants to play Playstation 6 or Nintendo for a few hours a day I see no problem in that. I played console games as a kid and I don't think it fries your dopamine receptors as long as it's something you do for fun, not something you make your life revolve around.

The bigger risks are that he becomes a fat smartphone addict or someone addicted to porn who can barely look women in the eyes.
I refuse to install parental controls though because that's just stupid, anyone with over 60 IQ can bypass those. And porn at that age is just fine if it doesn't become an addiction.

They’re relatively wealthy kids who go Oxford. From my experience kids who grew up with consoles are a minority there

Wouldn't you rather have spent that time learning a skill that would have stayed with you, making you a better man? And it's not like playing a sport/learning an instrument is boring, you can have a lot of fun doing so...

I ended up playing a lot of computer games because I was autistic (and subsequently a looser / outcast). I never got into sports etc, despite playing a lot outside when I was a young kid, because of my poor social skills and computer games were a way out for me.

I guess what I'm saying is this: it's not always the case that computer games will ruin your kids social skills, and that the inverse can be true, where the kid has bad social skills / doesn't fit in, so turns to computer games.

High IQ parents don't buy console for their kids

someone addicted to porn who can barely look women in the eyes
That happens when you're ugly, not because of smartphones or whatever. In general, you're placing way too much faith in bringing your children up in a certain way.
Like physical activity -it's not gonna simulate any development. The body has a genetic blueprint, that it follows as it grows. Chads play sports (not that there's anything good about sports) because they have hormonal profile for it. They don't become Chads from playing them.

not allowing your kid to have any knowledge or skill in video games and technology will harm his social life seriously, I wasn't allowed to play cod or gta and when I went over to friends houses and we played it I was really bad and felt left out

No, I wish I never got gifted an iPad as a child, I used to be an extroverted kid always out with friends and that shit ruined my social development, turned me into an introvert and fried my brain. Luckily I didn't turn out too bad. No electronics allowed until he's done developing. Kids these days are fucked

The answer is to balance screen time with developing a work ethic and responsibility in your kids. People here rot on their devices16 hours a day and end up hating themselves so they think screens are the devil for kids and want to ban any screen from their kids lives. Biggest self projection ever.

Why would you try to stun his growth?
That only applies to strength training. Ill have him do calisthenics till he is 18, and then bodybuilding. Ill have him do sports all year long to ntmaxx and stay in shape.

how? chads rot on xbox when theyre not at parties or sports.
That you're saying playing on xbox is ok because chads play on it but not on pc

play games cause you want to, not to fit in with others who play them and then trying to fit weird standards as well

Me n my brother turned out non nt cause we didn’t play sportball. I regret grinding on cod to master prestige as a teen.

1 cigarette a month probably isn't going to fuck your lungs, but still, smoking 0 cigarettes is better than smoking 1 cigarette a month.
The less bad habits the better.

If I wanted him to remain a virgin and friendless

Except gaming is only harmful when you do it over other things, it has more benefits when done in moderation. Gaming isn't a bad habit, it's a hobby, a very addictive one, which is why people think they're so bad. Good parenting won't let them be addicted.

If you don't let someone play games they're gonna waste their free time somewhere else, and if you think the answer to that is to remove any free time then that's dumb as hell.

no, u play xbox so that way you socialize with the chads and nt normies at ur school. not with weirdos on Steam from hundreds/thousands of miles away.

If you are spending time gaming you are doing it over other things that you coudl be doing with that time (go study microeconomy dumbass)

what are the "benefits" of gaming? After an year of gaming 1h/2h a day what do you have? Have you learned something? Have you got a skill helpful IRL?

Ofc I'm not going to let my son wander around without any guidance; I'll fill his time with productive activities that he'll also enjoy, and gaming isn't one
