let's say you have a friend whos life is going downhill, you can sacrifice your own comfort/money/effort to help him but either way he's guaranteed to forget about you and that you helped him the next day

would you help someone if they forgot you ever existed, even if that person is important to you?

i feel like for me the importance of helping someone is in the fact that they remember i helped them and appreciate me for that

just a hypothetical ive been thinking about

I'd still help them. Morality is independent of gains or outcomes.

i like helping people so yes. it also validates your own ego even if they dont necessarily remeber

it varies for everyone; for some, it is enough simply to do good, regardless of whether they receive sufficient gratitude

maybe im a horrible person because of this but i would probably never do any favors if the person im doing the favor doesnt know i did it
i’d do it only for my family

If I have to give up something very big or drastic no, But I have enough love maybe in me to still do it especially if it's someone I am really close to.
