If your were born in the wrong time period or a destitute country, you wouldn’t be able to reach your full potential with that intelligence. Furthermore, it still requires some work ethic (conscientiousness) to perform well, even if you have a high IQ, albeit we’re talking about the smartest, but point still stands. Lastly, we live in an economy where connections is debatably more important the IQ, so having a high IQ doesn’t guarantee wealth.
I tend to actually think that human happiness comes mostly from feeling a sense of belongings with a tight-knit community of some sorts. While a high IQ person on average might have better social skills to feel that sense of connection, good looks comes first for people to be in awe of your intelligence. Plus, intelligence might lead to self-isolation, which is less likely with good looks.
Also, intelligence is like a tool to have to sharpen to use it to its most effective means. With looks, while your looks can deteriorate with poor self care, there’s only so much that’ll really change about your appearance. It’s like you have a mask that you can never take off. It’s hard to make a handsome person ugly, unless they physically injure themselves to great lengths. Intelligence on the other hand, requires the right application, which is a lot harder than just being attractive.
