That's how people cope with things they can't change, by pretending that they prefer that circumstance to an objectively better circumstance. Just like when parents of a down syndrome child say that they wouldn't change their child to a normal child if they could. Since there's zero chance of their down syndrome child changing into a normal child, they pretend they prefer to have a kid with down syndrome.

Unless they're trying to undo their sins there's no logic or faith in doing so. That's delaying potential eternal bliss by 50 years for earthly life with it's ups and downs.
