Jfl. I lazily opened my email inbox today and I nearly got a heart attack. Wtf so many emails, messages. Half of the internet went down yesterday. I didn't even know this happens because I was out with my friends.

My friends , people on reddit and discord groups who were on holiday and were sleeping got called midnight and paged every 2 minutes. for an emergency. Their entire teams have been working continuously for hours to get things back up. Caged.

Apparently there was an AWS outage. Many of them still remain down. Thank God I wasn't on call. Seems like a nightmare. I don't know why this happened. All I'm seeing is memes like this below and some useless articles that aren't talking about the core issue.

It was down for like an hour in the morning, kept getting rate errors trying to scroll though DBDR's subreddit

Around ~5 hours apparently to have the lifeline services back up but the full restoration took longer and yeah we are that dependent on the internet. Just think about it. Evrything you do today is tied to the internet. Bank transactions, shopping, Hospital databases, flights etc etc. So when AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure goes down for just a few hours it's not "the internet" dying it's the backbone of commerce and infrastructure momentarily stalling. Billions are lost because time is money and digital downtime freezes that clock.
