You'll need at least 2.5k followers, not 1k.

Only a select few staff can verify accounts.

No, it doesn't show for everyone. The proof you show to prove it's your account is only seen once by the staff member reviewing your request. After your request is accepted or denied then whatever proof you submitted will not be available to be seen by anyone else.
