What separates man from beast is conscious thought. The ability to think ahead, to analyze events and patterns, to realize when your instinct is wrong and to correct yourself. That is the separation. If you can not do that, or simply refuse to do that, and give in every time to emotion and animal intuition, you are little more than an advanced animal. Realize when you are thinking with your animal brain, and correct yourself by thinking this question. Is the short term gain and pleasure worth the long term regret and stagnation?

When you overindulge mostly. There's nothing wrong with simple pleasures like sex and food, but the problem is you must realize that too much of it is horrible for your long term benefit. However, when people realize it is bad for them and still commit to it, that is when you are little more than an animal. You are rejecting your human side for your animal side, because you simply refuse to listen to it.

I am not disdaining animalistic pleasure. There's nothing with indulging. But when you're only desire is to indulge and indulge, then you are little better than an animal. Balance is everything after all. Indulging too much into one thing will make you too extreme, and I personally think that only caring about sex, food, and base happiness is little better than what animals do. Everyone has the potential to be so much more than they currently are, but most people refuse to take advantage of it. It is a waste of the true power of mankind, the conscious mind; instead some people just want to base their entire existence on their subconscious, their instincts.
