Imagine you are walking by a pond and a child is drowning and you have the chance to save him. But in doing so you will have to ruin your £200 shoes. Would you do it? Ofc you would because anyone who wouldn’t is an evil monster.
Now what’s the difference between this child and another child in another country who is dying of a disease? You could save this child too for just £200 by a donation to clean water and medicine but you don’t, you just buy the shoes instead sacrificing money on things you don’t need.
In other words, the child is already drowning but this time, you just don’t see the pond. Hence a child that is drowning is much easier to ignore now because you are an hypocrite.
