Content in this forum is controversial compared to main stream beliefs (although looksmaxxing has become mainstream by now so this is not really true anymore). But compared to itself it's really not.
Of course a philosophy like looksmaxxing should not contradict itself. But the people participating in it should have some opinions that go against it. If you agree with every set of beliefs of a certain philosophy you are probably brainwashed.

I could guess every single bit of what a random user thinks about the world and different topics just by knowing he uses this forum. That's not a good thing. In a well structured community you should have people following a general principle but ultimately having different opinions, so every one can learn from each other.

The problem is the karma system with voting, and moderators. Remove those two, and you've essentially fixed the website.

The vote karma system is what maintains the echo-chamber and silence different opinions. Keep moderators for subreddit but severely restrict their power to only being able to punish users for standard rule-breaking such as off-topic or spam. In other words, moderators cannot ban you from a subreddit because of 'specific' rules or biased agenda.

Obviously, the only way to achieve this would be if someone who values freedom of speech, with a few million dollars to spare, simply bought Reddit for the sake of the largest discussion forum being a fair discussion forum. I do wonder how the core reddit user base would react if this happened, if the vote&Karma system was removed and moderators were severely restricted.
