I'd like to elaborate more because my first two posts were made while I was high and now that I look back on them the quality of them is abysmal and I'm not being very coherent.
The real issue I had with this guy was seeing him fight before he took his L. I used to follow boxing obsessively for a period between last year and COVID. In British boxing any semi decent guy gets hyped up to be world class even if they're dogshit. Same with Kelly. Watching his shitty Philly shell and listening to commentary saying he is basically ready for a world title was nauseous. I don't think commentators realise that they make fighters more unlikeable when they constantly fellate them and hype them up to be something they aren't. So for many boxing fans it was a matter of time before this guy is going to step up from fighting bums and fight someone semi decent. I think a lot of people were also hating because he is good looking, which is another brutal realisation about good looks and envy.
This of course came true when an European level fighter ended up beating the living shit out of him. It was cathartic to watch, especially seeing the same commentators who have been hyping him up as the next Mayweather, etc. eat shit on live TV. I think for many boxingfancels it was a release because they could see a CL get beaten up on TV by a LTN Armenian.
He is obviously good looking and has done well enough in his life but man I don't envy him. Listen to any interview of him recently and you can hear how brain damaged he is. Slurring words, etc. CTE has already gotten to him. Plus he doesn't seem that bright in the first place. It's more fucked up because I think he has kids. Never a good sign to have your brains so deeply rattled while so young.
tl;dr
It's over if you're not a good looking athlete; water
