A Russian scientist selectively bred fur foxes by only allowing the tamest foxes to reproduce every generation. Tameness was the only selection criterion for the experiment.

Physical differences were recorded by the end of the experiment between the tameness-selected foxes and the wild-like foxes even though the experimenters where not trying to produce these physical effects..


The phenomenon described by Belyayev is also called domestication syndrome. All domesticated animals, INCLUDING HUMANS, have undergone domestication and like foxes experienced physical changes due to selection of desirable psychological traits. Domestication is also the reason why humans look so different yet are part of the same species.

This brings up a funny paradox. You’re treated based on how you look. You act based on how you’re treated. Basically all Your predispositions determine who you are, everything you will be besides not including genes is somewhat guaranteed by unchangeable stuff like your genes.
