1. WHY CLEAR SKIN MATTERS SO MUCH
Your face instantly signals health, vitality and hormonal status. Halo effect, you've heard it 1000x by now. Still real in everyday life though. Walk in with clear skin and people perceive you differently, automatically read you as smarter and more competent. Potential partners, friends, job interviews. Everywhere.
CLEAR SKIN IS STATUS.
There isn't ONE type of skin problem.. there are many (who would've guessed). Each has its own mechanism, so each needs its own treatment:

CLEAR SKIN IS STATUS.
There isn't ONE type of skin problem.. there are many (who would've guessed). Each has its own mechanism, so each needs its own treatment:
- Active acne with inflammation
- Blackheads permanently clogging your pores
- Hyperpigmentation / dark marks left from old breakouts
- Acne scars that structurally change your skin texture
- Redness and uneven complexion
- Dull, pale skin with zero glow
Why skincare is one of the biggest levers in looksmaxxing: skin is one of the few areas where consistent execution gets you a measurable difference in 8 to 12 weeks. No surgery, no 10-step routine, no huge budget. Relatively easy to fix. Most people still mess it up because they don't know what actually works and what's trash. That's what this thread is for. Thank me later.
THE MECHANISM: WHY ACNE EVEN HAPPENS
Your sebaceous glands produce sebum. Oily substance, actually important for your skin. Becomes a problem when too much gets produced. Pores clog. Bacteria ("Cutibacterium acnes") multiply anaerobically inside those pores. Inflammation. Exactly the pimples you don't want.
Sebum production is largely driven by androgens. High androgens, high sebum production. And everything that spikes IGF-1 pushes the process further. IGF-1 is fuel on the fire for your sebaceous glands. Remember that, it comes back in a second.
2. DIET. THE FOUNDATION
I know, nobody wants to hear about diet. It's the foundation, but there are bigger levers that improve your skin way harder without restricting yourself much. Coming right up. If you want to skip: scroll straight down to the actives.
The mechanism here: insulin rises, IGF-1 gets released, IGF-1 triggers sebum production, more sebum, clogged pores, breakout. So you want to avoid insulin spikes as much as possible.
What to keep in moderation:
Sugar and simple carbs. Sweets, sugary drinks, white bread, polished rice. All high glycemic index, meaning blood sugar shoots up, IGF-1 gets fueled, acne gets worse.
Sweeteners. Better than sugar, but not neutral. No insulin spike, but they can destabilize your gut flora. Disrupted gut flora is pro-inflammatory, and systemic inflammation is a direct acne trigger.
Skim milk & whey protein. Skim milk has no fat to buffer the hormonal response, and industrial processing often adds whey on top. Whey strongly stimulates IGF-1, usually with sweeteners in the mix too. That's why a lot of guys chugging their daily whey shake have constant breakouts.
The switch: If dairy, then full-fat, fermented or raw milk from pasture-raised cows. Fermented stuff like kefir is good for the gut in general. Less inflammation, clearer skin.

3. ACTIVES FOR ACTIVE ACNE
Benzoyl Peroxide 5% (BPO)
Goated as a spot treatment against active acne. BPO pushes oxygen straight into the pore. Anaerobic bacteria, exactly the pathogens causing the inflammation, die off. Dab the 5% gel on active pimples, done. Every pharmacy has it, easy online too. For mild to moderate acne this is your first step.
Adapalene (topical retinoid)
The next level. Adapalene is a vitamin A derivative. Regulates cell turnover inside the pore, so clogs never even form. Harsher than BPO, but more effective long term.

The difference:
BPO fights existing inflammation.
Adapalene prevents it from forming.
Also worth mentioning: Epiduo, a combo of both. Best of both worlds for many.
IMPORTANT: The first 1-2 weeks your skin often gets worse first. Purging. It's normal, clears up after, so push through.
THE ABSOLUTE GOAT: ISOTRETINOIN
aka Accutane. Nothing comes close. Almost everyone with an insane skin transformation is or was on it.
- Permanently shrinks the sebaceous glands
- Cuts sebum production down to a minimum
- Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial
- Often completely pimple-free after a single course. Forever.
On iso your diet barely matters for your skin anymore. The glands are shrunk so much that even elevated IGF-1 can't trigger anything.
Before the questions start: Yes, prescription only. The route goes through a derm, with regular bloodwork (liver values, blood lipids, this stuff isn't creatine). Dosing is weight based and set by the doctor. What you need to understand: iso works off the total cumulative dose, not time. Quit early and you risk relapse. Low dose protocols are underrated btw, way fewer side effects and skin still clears for most. Bring it up with your derm.
The TikTok horror stories are mostly cope, iso has been researched for decades and is a salvation for most people. Still, a medication is a medication, which is exactly why the bloodwork is part of the deal.
Pro tip: Take it with fat. Isotretinoin is lipophilic, on an empty stomach you throw away massive bioavailability. So always with a proper meal.
ISO TIMELINE:
Phase | Timeframe | What you'll see |
Starting phase | Week 1-4 | Skin can get worse at first (purging). Pores are being emptied. Don't quit, it's normal. |
End of purging | Week 4-8 | Inflammation calms down. First visible improvements, fewer active breakouts. |
Clearing | Week 8-12 | Clear improvement. New breakouts stop, complexion gets more even. |
Final phase | Week 12-20 | Skin largely clear. Redness and post-acne marks fade. |
Goal reached | Cumulative dose reached | Often completely pimple-free. Results usually long term / permanent. |
4. ACNE SCARS. WHAT ACTUALLY WORKS.
The pimples are gone. The scars stay. This is where most people get everything wrong. Too weak, too late, or with the wrong tool for the wrong scar type.
Acne scars aren't purely cosmetic. Deep scars change your skin texture structurally and measurably lower perceived skin quality, even when the acne is long gone. So you have to be precise here.
Why scars form in the first place: with deep inflammation the body doesn't repair the tissue cleanly. Instead of even collagen you get scar tissue, structurally different, visibly noticeable. Every treatment targets the same thing: push the body into controlled new collagen formation and break down the old scar tissue bit by bit.
Topical retinoids (e.g. retinal)
The foundation. Stimulate collagen production and smooth the surface over time. Effective for superficial scars and post-acne hyperpigmentation. Takes a few months, just stay consistent.
GHK-Cu (copper peptide)
Absolute GOAT peptide. GHK-Cu transports copper to your cells, and copper is essential for collagen synthesis and skin repair. It signals the body to break down old scarred tissue and replace it with fresh collagen. As an injectable though, this belongs in medical hands, not a DIY project.

IMPORTANT: Use retinoid and GHK-Cu on alternating nights, don't combine them in one night. Retinoids can degrade GHK-Cu.
Azelaic acid
Extremely underrated. For redness and pigment marks, also works against post-acne hyperpigmentation.
Vitamin C serum
For complexion and pigment marks. Inhibits melanin production, marks fade over time. Together with retinol a solid anti-pigmentation system.
WHAT YOU NEED WHEN:
Scar type | Severity | Right approach |
Redness / post-acne marks | Superficial | Azelaic acid, vitamin C |
Texture irregularities | Mild | Retinal, GHK-Cu, patience |
Depressed scars | Moderate | GHK-Cu, professional microneedling |
Deep atrophic scars | Severe | CO2 laser, go see a derm |
For deep scars the CO2 laser at the dermatologist is the only real path. It fires microscopic injuries into the skin and activates the body's self-healing in a controlled way. Result: new collagen, smoother texture, reduced scar structure. Everything else is cope here.
5. BONUS: GLOWY SKIN + ROUTINE
If you don't just want clear skin but long-term glowy, youthful skin (the "Korean glass skin" look), stack these 3 together:
If you don't just want clear skin but long-term glowy, youthful skin (the "Korean glass skin" look), stack these 3 together:
- Isotretinoin. The GOAT for clear skin, base for the rest (like I said: derm route)
- Topical retinoids (retinal / retinol). Smooth, glowing skin through boosted cell renewal
- GHK-Cu. Denser skin through more collagen
That's how you get the potential to look like you have an IG filter on your face 24/7.
Important: Skin can react sensitively to this combo. Redness and light peeling at the start are normal, no reason to quit.
MORNING ROUTINE:
- Cleansing (optional): For sensitive skin, water is often enough. If you use a cleanser: gentle, non-comedogenic, no alcohol, no exfoliants.
- Moisturizer: Protect the barrier without clogging pores. Light, oil-free cream or gel.
- Sunscreen, MANDATORY: UV destroys collagen and worsens pigmentation. Mineral over chemical, SPF 50+. Avoid tanning beds.
EVENING ROUTINE:
- Cleansing (optional): Same product as in the morning.
- Treatment: The actives that fit your situation, everything from above.
- Moisturizer: Repair the barrier. Richer cream than in the morning, especially on iso.
6. CONCLUSION
Back to you: you probably landed here because your skin bothers you. Because you look in the mirror every morning and see what's wrong. Active pimples that won't leave, redness making your complexion uneven, scars from old breakouts. Here you have everything after years of research and trial & error in ONE thread.
Skincare is an extreme lever. But only one lever. Looksmaxxing is an ecosystem (buzzword, I know): training, body fat, sleep, hair, style, hardmaxxing, it all interlocks. If you really want to reach a high level, you have to understand and run your self-improvement as one complete system, no matter where you currently sit on the scale.
With all the TikTok trends and forum copes out there, this gives you a clear system and a clear routine.
YOU'RE WELCOME.
