Nothing we do is original, it was already established by someone before us. Going to school, getting married, hell even doing a mass shooting has never been an original action. Us modern humans have almost never had an entirely original thought, its often just been a variation of a thought previously thought before. True genius is one every couple hundred years imo like for say isaac newton who legit shut himself in his house for 2 years and developed calculus and physics as a way to explain the fundamental laws of the universe. No one even has replicated his sort of genius. He didnt use any previous research as a basis except for the basics he knew which was gravity and orbit. Everything else he entirely made up as a way to explain his theories. And guess what? everything he developed is still being used today which shows his true genius. And other physicist have built up on his findings like for say albert einsetin who established e=mc^2 which means that mass and energy can be used interchangably as theyre essentially the same.
