Typical when people don't have a personal connection with you. Everyone knows their favorite YouTuber and click a video if they see his name and avi. If you're a generic documentary channel then your thumbnail and title have to be on point every time. Maybe work on your branding.

The problem is my upload frequency, I have been away on holiday and visiting friends ect I got lazy with my videos

sometimes i wonder if youtube is as easy as i think it is. take a look at true crime channels for example. a fat bitch can stare into the camera for 30 mins straight reading straight off of wikipedia and garner almost 5mil views. multiple channels make the same regurgitated content yet viewers will still lap that shit up giving them hundreds of thousands of views. i notice on reddit the today i learned sub content gets reposted over and over like every month yet they get thousands of upvotes. you can probably make a profitable channel just doing the more interesting Today I Learned shit like crime or supernatural occurences or whatever in video format
