What is Semax?

Semax is a nootropic used for it's neuroprotective purposes, mainly for patients who've experienced strokes, or recently under gone some form of brain surgery. It was first described in Russian medical literature in 1991 and is an approved official medication within Russia. There are two predominant methods of administration, for Humans, but will be discussed later. Note that there have also been no official clinical trials on subcutaneous Semax, so take my advice with caution.

What does
Semax do?

Semax enhances cognitive function through brain signalling pathways. Semax's function is to increase the Brain-Derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signalling, BDNF is a key component in increasing neuroplasticity, aka how the brain rewires itself to retain and process new information by forming new neural connections. In practice, this means information learnt whilst using Semax is much more likely to stick and actually be processed by your brain.

Semax also regulates your dopamine and serotonin levels, but these changes are much less noticeable in the typical sense. Dopamine is important in motivation levels, which translates to how committed and focused you are whilst you study. An increase in serotonin levels are a small part of Semax, and is mainly only noticeable by patients who also undergo large amounts of work or academic related stress as serotonin is responsible for regulating your mood and making you feel good!

In the short-term it helps with studying like increased focus and mental clarity, but prolonged use, such as subcutaneous Semax, increases BDNF signalling which allows the once temporary effects of Semax to become much more long-lasting.

Important:

One important thing you must know, is that taking Semax doesn't just suddenly make you better at studying or make you smarter. It helps with what you're doing. Therefore, if you spend all day gooning and watching TikTok, you are quite literally helping your brain wire new neural connections to more effectively goon and watch TikTok, which is disastrous. This means that upon taking Semax it is your responsibility to try and drop these bad habits because although doing them in the first place hurts you, on Semax it hurts you even more.

What is Intranasal and Subcutaneous Injections, and How does it Effect the
Semax I Take?

These are simply two ways to administer Semax, essentially means either via the nose, or via the blood stream.

Intranasal means administration via the nose. This would be done with something such as a spray inserted into the nose which shoots up and gets absorbed by the nasal mucosa before spreading and travelling to the brain via the olfactory pathway, also uses the trigeminal nerve pathway to travel to the Central Nervous System (CNS). Taking Semax intranasally ensures that it bypasses the Blood-Brain-Barrier (BBB) and has direct access to the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex, both of which are vital to studying. Intranasal effects are much faster with a higher, but very short peak.

Subcutaneous is the scary way to take Semax. It means injecting the Semax under the skin into the fat before being absorbed by capillaries and circulating around the body until it reaches the brain via informal pathways such as diffusion through the BBB. This means there is also the possibility that some of the Semax you take travels nowhere and is ineffective in acting as a nootropic. Subcutaneous Semax is much more systemic because it travels indirectly and does not have a direct pathway to the brain like intranasal does. Therefore, the benefits of subcutaneous Semax are much larger, but due to the informal pathway and spreading of Semax rather than being so direct like intranasal is, the effect is much less intense. Subcutaneous Semax has a much shorter, but longer peak.

How to Dose and Administer Intranasal and Subcutaneous Semax?

As said earlier, intranasal Semax has a much shorter pharmacokinetic half-life (it has a tall, but sharply declining peak). Take approximately 200 - 600 micrograms per use which should be a few minutes before you start studying, or whatever other purpose you are using Semax for. Total dosage for the day should not exceed 1.5mg total, or 1500 micrograms. Do not use Semax anywhere close to a time you will sleep at as you will have an incredibly hard time falling asleep due to the stimulating effects of Semax. To use the spray, first position the nozzle as far up your nose as you can reach, but not too far. Then, depending on the dose of each spray, use the recommended amount stated earlier. I currently take Semax subcutaneously and might create a guide on here on how to make intranasal Semax as when researching Semax, ironically after I have taken Semax subcutaneously, I have found intranasal Semax suits my purpose much more, which would be studying. So I might make a spray rather than continue taking Semax subcutaneously as it's a much more long-term method, and I am an impatient guy!

Intranasal Semax is on the left, and lyophilized powdered Semax is on the right (what we'll use for our subcutaneous injection).

Subcutaneous Semax would need to be made by you. You would require:

- 1ml insulin syringe
1776556781572

- Vial of Semax, I will use a 50mg vial in my example
1776556754802

- Bacteriostatic water
1776556698256

- Isopropyl alcohol wipes
1776556810337

You would need to reconstitute the Semax first as it would be in a lyophilized powder state. Reconstitution simply means adding the bacteriostatic water to the powder and creating a dissolved and injectable solution out of it. First, we will need to add the bacteriostatic water to the Semax, adding 3ml to a 50mg vial in total. First, grab your insulin syringe and take out 1ml of the bacteriostatic water. Tilt the vial, or syringe, so that the bacteriostatic water drips onto the vial wall, and gently reaches the powder. This prevents damage to the Semax. Repeat this until 3ml of bacteriostatic water has been added. Now, you have to mix the Semax and bac water together to ensure the powder is fully dissolved. Do not shake the vial ever, you will destroy the Semax inside. What you must do is gently place the vial in-between your hands like you're going to crush it, and rub your hands together ensuring the vial rotates in-between your hands, mixing the powder and bac water together. Once the Semax is reconstituted, you will now have to inject it, spooky. The way you know how much to take is due to the concentration. We added 3ml of bac water to 50mg of Semax, therefore each ml of the solution has 16.7mg of Semax. Because each syringe is 1ml and there are 100 units, 1 unit would equal 0.167mg of Semax. Therefore, we are going to take around 3 units, or around 0.5mg of Semax in our syringe which we will inject. You must sanitise the area before injecting, so use your isopropyl alcohol wipes and wipe the area you're going to inject down, which would be your lower abdomen around where the nasal is. Position the syringe at a 45 degree angle and slowly insert the syringe into the fat below the skin ensuring the needle is as snug as a bug in a rug before injecting the Semax. These injections must be taken in the morning every day for as long as you want, but note that the noticeable benefits seem to plateau at around the 8 week mark.

If you struggled to understand how to inject the peptide, then make sure to watch the video below as the doctor explains it much better than me.

Take this photo as an example on where too inject every day, rotating within each rotation block isn't necessary from experience, but if pain prolongs in one spot then make sure to avoid injecting a site which is still sore.
