So as you do I was on YouTube and got recommended this video:
key excerpts from it:
Another video talking about it:
I was kinda surprised such a religious Muslim nation had such a problem with repressed homosexuality and exploitation of boys. So I dug deeper and here's what I found.
Whats it all about?
The grooming of young boys in Afghanistan, often referred to as "bacha bazi" (meaning "boy play"), is a deeply entrenched and controversial practice with historical, cultural, and socio-political dimensions. This analysis examines the phenomenon, its roots, societal implications, and the challenges in eradicating it.
1. What is Bacha Bazi/dancing boys?
Bacha bazi involves the exploitation of young boys (typically aged 10–18) by powerful men—often warlords, military commanders, politicians, and wealthy elites—who keep them as dancing boys, sex slaves, and status symbols. The boys, called "bacha bereesh" (beardless boys), are usually from poor families, orphans, or kidnapped.
Performances: The boys are dressed in feminine attire, dance at private parties ("mujra"), and are sexually abused.
Power Dynamics: The practice is linked to patronage networks, where powerful men use the boys as symbols of influence.
Forced Submission: Many victims are coerced through threats, violence, or economic desperation.
2. Historical and Cultural Context
Pre-Islamic & Mughal Influence:
Some scholars trace similar practices to pre-Islamic Central Asian traditions where young boys were kept as court entertainers.
Pashtunwali & Tribal Customs: In Pashtun culture, strict gender segregation limits interactions with women, leading some men to turn to boys for companionship and exploitation.
Soviet & Taliban Eras: The practice was suppressed under the Taliban (who punished it harshly) but resurged during the post-2001 U.S. occupation, particularly among militia commanders and government-aligned strongmen.
A afghan man going to a place to recruit a dancing boy:
Same afghan man with another dancing boy who he goes home with:
A video of another performance of a afghan boy dancing:
an interview with the dancing boys themselves:
Key documentary these clips were taken from:
Disclaimer:
I simply made this thread shedding light on the abuse happening in Afghanistan. I strongly oppose any types of behavior like this. I also don't condone violence, hate or harm in any way shape or form. All comments and posts made by me were satirical and are not representative of my views.
