If acne is holding you back, Accutane (isotretinoin) is the most powerful reset button you can take. Clear skin alone moves your face 1-2 points.

Who should consider it?

Moderate to severe acne
Acne that scars
Topicals or antibiotics failed

What it does:

Shrinks oil glands
Cuts oil production by 80-90%
Stops new acne
Improves overall skin texture

Dosage:

how many MG's?

Usually whatever your derm gives you (based of bodyweight)

Course: 4-6 months (depends different for some people)

Higher dose = faster results, harsher sides
Moderate dose = slower, smoother ride

Side effects (expect these):

Dry lips, skin, eyes (the basic sides that i have mostly)

Nosebleeds (never had those but everyone reacts different)

Joint pain (had it in my hand for a week but its gone now)

Temporary hair shedding (hair thinning mostly in the first months gets better overtime)

Liver or triglyceride changes (bloodwork required)

How to survive it:

Heavy moisturizer and lip balm (vaseline best)
Gentle cleanser only
Sunscreen daily

Timeline:

Month 1: possible purge, dry lips/skin
Month 2-3: acne rapidly decreases, texture improves
Month 4-6: mostly clear, maintenance phase

After finishing: skin stays less oily, acne rarely returns

Important:

Accutane stops new acne/scarring, doesn’t erase old scars.
Old scars may need microneedling, laser, or peels after acne is gone.

Mostly no, don’t get fearmongered by retards. Less sebum production could mean looser hair because it’s less hydrated but this is very mild. Most people who have acne have naturally greasy hair, so it just reduces grease and your hair stays healthy. Very mild side effect, you don’t need to consider it at all

most people don’t have any major issues, but I’ve seen some cases where the reduced oil does lead to drier scalp or mild irritation, especially if you have seborrheic dermatitis. It’s a small chance, but it’s something to keep in mind. But yeah, it’s usually pretty mild and not something to stress about.

Yea it made my hair much drier, I only wash my hair every 1-2 weeks now because my hair just doesn't get greasy anymore

True, but for people with an already greasy scalp it’s fine

How is this a guide? You're literally telling people to follow what their derm told them and the majority of people get their isotret w/ no prescription.
