This is how the conversation usually goes:
Hey man what do you do for a living? You don't seem to be from around hwre
I tell them. Yea, I am from India and I work in DevOps.
Their face shifts to confusion Oh, what’s that? Is that something in IT?
I nod Yeah, sort of. It’s a part of the tech industry.
Then comes the next question Which company?
I name the company, and suddenly there's a flicker of recognition Oh yeah, I’ve heard of that one. Big name. Very well known.
Then they ask Where’s your office located?
I tell them. And right at that moment, I can almost see the energy drain from their face the smile fading, eyebrows raised slightly.
Damn, you work there? Must be making a lot of money then.
They force a chuckle, toss out a quick Good for you, man… good for you and then walk away.
It’s strange. The tone always changes after that part like the conversation stops being casual and starts feeling awkward.
