might be my personal opinion but i really do think the facial representations of anime protagonists are best representative of what it means to be facially attractive for this generation. By aesthetic I just mean having a very admirable face. something you'd be in awe of. Not necccesarily having striking features or a dominating presence. Just something that draws you towards looking at the face. Makes sense since its an art form and there is no point in drawing a flawed face anyways.

Although, clearly certain styles are better suited to what you're talking about; when human figures are excessively abstract and not realistic enough, this type of reasoning doesn't really apply.

I agree with your minimum dimorphism argument, but male gaze/female gaze dichoromy is extreme cope and is usually related to soft features or things that are subjective/easy to changs (hair, eyes, nose, lips). The thing is that none of those manga dudes except maybe eren yaeger meet the dimorphism treshhold. Jin kazama does

Ehhh idk tbh I believe an appreciatio/admiration of something attractive in a non-primal manner is ubiquitous across age-groups & even inter-culturally

Like I thought about it. Let’s assume that comics/manga are the best representatives of beauty standards because they can be drawn to perfection. Characters like Superman or Bateman have a more dimorphic look with the wide-jaw/large-chin. But then again these dudes were more so meant for guys to look up to than
girls to fawn over.

Contrastingly, a character like Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond had a big emphasis on his character being a prettyboy & he looks more like an Anime character than DC Comic besides the phenotypic variations
