I heard it's probably the only abdominal exercise that's effective and easy

I do hanging leg raises, planks, and sometimes rotisserie for the abs.

Just do a 10 min ab workout video from youtube. Don't overcomplicate simple things. Stop delaying and start tonight

Yes, but it's far from easy

Yes. From a T-nation article, a recommended ab, oblique, and lower back workout based on how much the specified muscle is activated:

Turkish Get Up
Chin Up, Hanging Leg Raise, or Weighted Swiss Ball Crunch
Ab Wheel Rollout, Bodysaw, or RKC Plank
Kneeling Cable Lift, Tornado Ball Slam, Landmine, or Reverse Hyper

.

So apparently the ab roller is good so long as you use it right.

Though, I am not sure how legit the article is; I read it a long time ago and have used it ever since for my ab routine.

yea they're legit but progressing is kinda shit unless you have a ramp

Yes, but can get same result with a yoga ball and something to raise your legs on to
