Do they seriously measure very person at the doctors and then record it. I'm guessing if I went to Germany I would be a tiny bit above average there

Apparently estimated average Italian 19 year old is 174 and you're nearly 5 cm above average at 179, so being roughly 75th percentile sounds right or maybe you have shorter than average company.

Most of them aren't self reported and you can see that next to the averages. The numbers are statistically adjusted accordingly and based on a Bayesian model to predict the averages.

Height statistics are never 100% accurate because they are based on researchs with thounsands of people of sample size. Depending on where they pick these people and on randomness this lead to inaccurate results.
Since big cities and white people are very likely overrepresented IRL average height in Europe is probably lower than stats in a lot of countries.

What can also be taken into account is what time they may measure people too, I suspect it's morning/late morning or early afternoon, this will slightly increase the average measurement than the most accurate measurement being your evening height (of course this is subjective but the imo is the most honest claim).

Also, I've heard from some people that sometimes when having a medical the nurse or doctor doesn't care whether they have their shoes on or not which also could be something to factor in, I'd like to think when these studies were done though that this wouldn't be the case...

From the Netherlands, i'd say from personal experience anything below 180 is pretty noticable. I still find the 184 average to seem a bit high figuring most of my guy friends are 180-185cm. One of my friends is 175 and he is considered to be very small among us.

Im “average” height here in borgerland but depending where I go i may be shorter or taller than most people. Even if I only compare it to other white people there are still big height differences in different areas because of the different gene pools. I would imagine it changes in every area so it really depends where you're at in particular. If youre in an area with a bunch of immigrants or an area with lots of poor people or lots of middle aged and old people the average height is lower.

They measure in shoes in the authorities + 90% of men lie about their true barefoot height, that's it.

In Germany it depends on the region, you would a bit below average in the north and average in other parts.
