Are looks truly more important then your personality during your teen years?

So far in my life, I’ve been a slightly below average looking person, but not truly to the point that people would make fun of me for my looks. I’ve always struggled socially, ever since I was a little kid. However, my best friend looks a lot worse then me, even he admits it, but he has a lot more friends and has had girls interested in him. I’ve had none of that. The only difference between him and me is that he’s more sociable. This made me wonder weither looks truly matter more during your teen years then personality?

Not based on my experiences, but lookism does play a large role in life.
