We can really only claim that in an existent space, we have never seen anything come into existence without explanation, but arguably it's more true to say we've never seen anything come into existence because we really just see the reorganization of existing parts.

I'd still tend to agree because nothingness itself is unintelligible so I cant say I believe there was ever 'nothing.' Because any attribution to nothing makes it something. A thing with no attributes isn't really a thing.

Where I disagree is that I don't think the universe had to begin and I see no evidence of that. And by universe I don't just mean the universe post-big bang which obviously did have a start.
