This could not be more water but a lot of people seem to think otherwise. Let me put my hypothesis.
Humanity is seen as the pinnacle of life, obviously since we have two qualities together which is not seen amywhere else. Extremely high intelligence and finding pleasure from sex. The sex part could be generalised to finding pleasure from social bonding. However, with such gifts also come a curse. As humanity's kin size has increased, it is inevitable that the proortion of losers and winners has increased as well. However it would be wrong to assume that both increase at the same rate. While the proportion of winners increase at a constant rate, the losers increase at increasing rates as is evidenced by human competition in all spheres of life. As a consequence, these losers will always be undesirable and be shunned from soceity aka social bonding. Couple that with sentience and you get suffering. Human expectations have increased exponentially with technology which contributes to exceedingly few "normal" people in the world.
Artificial intelligence serves as an upgrade. The intelligence retains a superior intellect while shedding the need for social bonding. While a human would lose its drive due to feeling outcast, an artificial intelligence would feel no such thing. In this reality, social and sexual success and the pleasure gained from it thereafter is dependent on a roll of dice. Eliminating this finicky constraint that dictates the drive of people, already improves the efficiency of a species multifold.
Any reduction of suffering is ultimately good for the world. Humanity being reolaced by AI is net good since no new humans being born means no being to feel suffering. However, people who oppose it look only at what happens in the short term, which is why they are so opposed
