assymetry

so im going to see my dentist tomorrow for my yearly dentist appointment i have a popping in my jaw that im very sure attributes to my assymetry and possibly other flaws in my jaw how do i describe this to my dentist in a way that doesnt seem to be cosmetic so if i do need surgery my insurance covers it
