So apparently in 1940 after Denmark fell to Germany, the British invaded Iceland to prevent the Krauts from grabbing it for themselves.
Twas' pretty fucked up since Iceland were neutral. They protested the invasion but ultimately couldn't do shitand had to cooperate like lil bitches.

When the British military invaded Iceland in 1940, people gathered on the streets to see the troops, and it did not go unnoticed that many Icelandic women were captivated by them. Immediately discussions began over what effect this would have, and minimal interaction with Allied troops was encouraged; but this proved to be difficult, as many Icelanders had jobs which in some way led them to interact with the troops.
A committee was formed at the behest of the Icelandic government, which published a report noting the prevalence of engaging with prostitutes among the troops.
The Icelandic government tried unsuccessfully to reduce the Allied soldiers' encounters with Icelandic women, but unfortunately, the occupation required the building of a network of roads, hospitals, harbours, airfields and bridges across the countryAt one point, the number of foreign soldiers in Iceland was higher than the number of Icelandic men.
The Icelanders severely censured the sexual relationships between troops and local women, which were causing considerable controversy and political turmoil. Women were often accused of prostitution and of being traitors. 255 children were born from these liaisons, the ástandsbörn, 'children of the situation'.
In 1941, the Icelandic Minister of the Judiciary investigated "The Situation", and the police tracked 500+ women who had been having sex with the soldiers. Many were upset that the foreign troops were "taking away" women, friends, and family.
During 1942 two facilities opened to house such women who had relations with the soldiers. Both closed within a year, after investigations determined that most liaisons were consensual. About 332 Icelandic women married foreign soldiers.
