(do not see this as a vent- just pers experience)
not to get into details but i grew up not knowing if i should be afraid or happy a lot of the time as a kid
because i grew up like this, i was constantly trying to find ways to get around my mom (dad was either at work or getting yelled at by my mom) or succeed against the rules
i think this played a very big part within the development of my IQ because i subconsciously saw my freedom and stability as the reward of a giant puzzle
as sad as it is, a lot of other people i know with high IQ had neglectful or unstable parents who (i think) inadvertently pushed this ‘puzzle’ onto their kid
on the other hand, some kids that have had terrible parents completely shut down and their IQ never does develop in the first place
i have not met anybody who is NT average IQ that had neglectful parents, they’re always the child of a (seemingly) loving household
