There is a fairly popular and old belief that basketball increased height in length. This is associated with the fact that people who play basketball are tall (this cannot be denied, since most are indeed tall) but in this case, it is a misconception, and basketball does not increase height in any way.
Most people refer to the fact that when you play basketball, you jump and stretch your spine and other bones. What is partially true is that stretching the vertebra can temporarily increase growth by up to 5cm. But playing basketball is just as dangerous and can lead to multiple consequences, such as injury.
These, in turn, damage the growth plate and subsequently negatively impact height growth.
