That is literally why heavy thick long hair especially is called that(especially long thick wavy hair historically I believe) lol, but also male hair in general. Never heard anyone compare beard to mane. Some male lions suffer from androgenic alopecia too and those are called bald/maneless lions lol. I got called this several times too for my long hair lol.
