I've noticed that most people are either humble or talented, but very few can manage both at the same time. Somehow I've been carrying that burden for years. For example, every time I do something impressive, I make a conscious effort not to bring it up immediately. Sometimes I even wait several minutes. Nobody talks about the level of self-control that requires. The other day I had a good idea and spent the entire afternoon pretending it wasn't one of the greatest thoughts anyone had ever produced. It's exhausting. People see the results, but they never see the discipline behind the humility. Honestly, being this humble might be one of my most impressive qualities, which is unfortunate because it would be arrogant to say so.
