The type of Arabic spoken in the news (modern standard) is quite different from the several different dialects of Arabic. When spoken colloquially in the dialects I've heard, it's a bit jarring, but the news reporters make it sound amazing.

Yeah, I've been studying Arabic since I was in middle school. There are some good sounding dialects like Egyptian and Lebanese ones. The official language which is called fousha is probably the best sounding language out there imo.
