I am very close to getting this surgery.

There is no hard and fast rule to it.
Generally, I think the people that stand to gain the most from bimax have significant clinical recession.
So I'm thinking around 5mm+ upper and lower jaw retrusion.
If the occlusal plane is poor, giving you have a gummy smile or poor tooth show, then surgery might also be a good idea.

I think that if you're already within normal range then this surgery will generally be a disappointment.

I have malocclusion tho, so the surgery fortunately falls under my insurance combined with orthodontics.
I am also trying to push the surgeon for some forward growth, which I can definitely use.
Have a meeting with him later this week to conclude final surgery plans.
We'll see there I guess.

Remember, you are leaving the rest of the maxilla behind when you advance the upper jaw.
Too much and you'll have a protruded mouth.

Okay. Class II I'm guessing.

I dont know about classes tbh, never had the surgeon or orthodontist tell me anything about that.
He just showed me on the scans that the teeth basically sit straight on top of each other instead of the upper teeth sitting slightly past the bottom teeth.
The maxilla is recessed, but because of this recession my mandible is basically always in its furthest position back, which is slightly uncomfortable. Dont really know too much about this, I will ask the surgeon in the meeting later this week.

I agree. As my resting side profile is not that bad, I dont want too much advancement.
Just a little more maxilla projection. A few mm's wont hurt in my case.
I also wish for more upper teeth projection when smiling.

my surgeon is good, he has shared past results of his and they seem very good

Yh I agreed with you I’m not getting bimax olny bsso+genio with Ramieri most likely.im 16 so I guess you could say I’m pretty young and I wouldn’t consider steroids cause I am prone to getting acne genetically.

acne is more so on the gut then hormones, but if ur doing hardcore surgeries, I don’t see why not to do some steroids, who knows maybe you’ll reap benefits. Maybe not
