I think it's because of (1) Japan is a rich and developed country (2) Strange culture and brutal male indispensability (3) Women being the same everywhere on Earth and seeing attractive men on social media, raising their standards, then all of a sudden 99% of men are not good enough. Japanese men are grass eating and see how brutally their fathers were treated in their extremely gynocentric culture, and they want to try avoid it. (Not that the average Japanese man is attractive enough for the increasingly western woman, but you know.)
