There is a VERY FINE balance between maximum advancement and quite literally ruining your life in all ways — looking like a crocodile jaw, horrible Tmj health which is debilitating, etc.

There are very few jaw surgeons who know how to strike this balance between aesthetic and function.

I paid 50k out of pocket, insurance covered about 20k of hospital and anesthesia fees. Another 6k for pre and post surgical orthodontics. Couple grand for housing for a few weeks in town.

Saved for a long time. My orthodontist told me as a 16 year old I needed it, parents of course didn’t listen, classic “that doctor is crazy!” Heading into late 20s now, took a while, but got it done. I’d rather have a little less money and look better but also cure my sleep apnea and bad occlusion.
