Bone smashing radix?

Is bone smashing the radix safe or not. I have a horribly recessed radix and I've been wondering if I can fix it. I've already looked up whether it's safe or not on the forums but many people say it's safe and many say it's not and I'm not entirely sure if the benefits outweigh the potential cons.
