Does anyone here experience bimaxillary protrusion of the lips, particularly the upper lip + philtrum due to braces. The lips can sometimes rest on the large brackets and wires causing the lips to appear more protruded. Additionally, the muscle strain from having to create a constant seal whilst having braces may be training the circular orbicularis oris muscle and causing it to hypertrophy, increasing the appearance of lip protrusion from the side. Does anyone else experience this and has anyone sewn improved lip protrusion from just before removing braces to just after removing braces, then 3 months after (to allow soft tissue to settle).

During braces, my lips appear more protruded because they rest on the brackets and wires, which temporarily pushes them forward. The constant effort to maintain a lip seal can also increase muscle tone, making the protrusion look worse than it really is. From what I understand, this effect often improves after braces are removed and the soft tissues have a few months to settle.

Mark as solution please.

Thank you for your response. I would like to ask, from your understanding, how many mm would the lips settle back and is this often enough to allow them to fall within the ideal range. I have also theorised that high body fat percentages or “baby face” may also increase lip protrusion from buccal fat causing increased bilateral pressure on the lips and making them sit forwards. This may also contribute to uneven or “set back” looking lips. I have done a lot of research on this but have found little results so this is mostly something that I have theorised.

From what I understand, lips typically settle back about 1–3 mm after braces are removed, which is often enough to bring them back into a normal or ideal range if the protrusion was mild or borderline. I also think your idea about higher body fat or a “baby face” makes sense, since extra cheek and perioral fat can push the lips forward and affect how balanced or set back they appear, even without any dental cause.

Hope so, I would definitely say it makes my face a lot more concave especially since I am also a youthfulfacecell.

Would you say it improved significantly. Post before and after pictures if you can please.
