Hello everyone.
I’ve seen a lot of people say braces can make you recessed, and I’m quite concerned about that. I have been wearing braces since I was 16, I’m 17 now so only one year difference. I should be taking my braces off by the start of 2026, but I’m still not sure if they can make you recessed. If they do, will I be able to do anything for some forward growth? I don’t really know if I’m recessed or if it’s just my posture. I was considering wearing a palate expander after my braces, but I don’t know if it would make any difference.

Overall question: Can braces actually make you recessed?

Braces only cause recession if they involve extractions or heavy retractive forces that pull the jaw back, so you should check if your current plan is 'expanding' or 'retracting' your profile. Since you're 17, you still have time to prioritize tongue posture (mewing) and chewing to encourage forward growth before your bone structure fully sets.

Thanks. Any threads about properly chewing?
About mewing, is hard Mewing really the thing? Should I aim to do it 24/7?
