Can braces stunt growth even without elastics?

I got braces at 16 and I swear my face hasn't grown since

Issue with orthodontic appliances and braces in general is it normally causes recession especially if in place for malocclusion or underbite. WIthout elastics, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Many on the forums swear by braces being a permanent looksmin however as it affects craniofacial development depending on how severe you're bite is off.

If I was given elastics, should I just not put them on in the first place? I have a underbite and I’m scared it may recess my mandible
