I'm here to end this debate once and for all.

After experimenting with many many different oils, castor oil is the only one that grew my eyebrows. I hope your take away from this thread is to throw minoxidil in the trash and pick up some castor oil!

Castor oil is a thick natural oil from the castor bean, containing ricinoleic acid, vitamin E, and fatty acids. It's been used for centuries (since 1500 BCE, castor oil was used for skin and hair issues). Before we go further, ask yourself this: which is healthier for my eyebrows/lashes. A natural oil that comes from a bean or a chemical made in a lab?

Ok! Now that we got that out of the way, lets get into the nitty gritty.

Why does minoxidil suck and why is castor oil better?:
Well, to answer this we first need to know what minoxidil is!

Minoxidil is a vasodilator, which means it widens blood vessels to pump nutrients to your follicles. Simple enough right? Except for the side effects. Which include: Scalp irritation, flaking, and itching. Studies (Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology) show 3-7% of people deal with irritation, and 4-7% get unwanted hair from topical use. Oral minoxidil is even worse, with the included amazing side effect of heart palpitations!

If you stop using minoxidil your hair growth/gains are gone, simple as that. You need to keep buying this disgusting chemical sludge and lathering it on your face to keep any hair growth. While its not super expensive it's still a pointless expense especially for the younger members of the forum.

Castor oil before and after:

1751310034642
1751310076337

Alrighty, we talked about why minoxidil sucks and what castor oil IS, but what does castor oil do?
Castor oil ricinoleic acid reduces inflammation and strengtehsn hair follicles, while the vitamin E and fatty acids hydrate your eyebrows. In 2015 a study (jouranal of Ethnopharmacology) showed ricinoleic acid improves scalp health.

Debunking common arguments:
SULT1A1 is an enyzme that activates minoxidil in the scalp by converting it into minoxidil sulfate, but some people have low levels of this making minox ineffective the only other route is oral, and all know the problems with oral minoxidil: it bloats you and you need to take an aldosterone-antagonist to circumvent this, and even then youre still going to grow unwanted hair around your body.

TLDR:
Castor oil is minoxidil without the side effects. It's naturally occuring in nature, has been around for thousands of years, and wont bloat you. It also isnt dependant on an enzyme called "SULTA1A" for it to work.

Epilogue:
Now ask yourself, do you want chemical slop that bloats you (and doesnt even work topically 20% of the time) and is made in a lab. Or do you want a natural eyebrow thickener that has been used for thousands of years?

Nice, you didn't change your shitty bias.

Wow, you really just went off one Google search for this.
Minoxidil prolongs the anagen phase of your hair follicles, vasodilation of capillaries close to the surface of your skin is not going to miraculously cause you to have thicker hair.
Shit argument.

If you stop using minoxidil your hair growth/gains are gone, simple as that. You need to keep buying this disgusting chemical sludge and lathering it on your face to keep any hair growth. While its not super expensive it's still a pointless expense especially for the younger members of the forum.
Guess what, if you stop using castor oil, you will probably see some decline in your results too.
Your hair thickness does not immediately return to what it was pre-minoxidil usage. Your anagen phase will be relatively shorter to your telogen phase, meaning you aren't going to have thicker hair, but you aren't necessarily going to lose it. Any evidence surrounding this is anecdotal, but actually take a second to consider the pharmacodynamics.
Shit argument.

Castor oil before and after:

Both of these photos are unrealistic and also have been posted by people with a stake in castor oil, i.e., they sell it, therefore they are biased.
Shit argument.

In my post regarding the SULT1A1 enzyme in your initial thread asking about if you should make this, I commented on it being the reason that minoxidil did not work for you specifically, I did not make the argument that you should use oral minoxidil instead. Topical minoxidil does not work for everybody, castor oil hardly works for anybody.
Anybody that is taking topical minoxidil is already aware of the impact on water retention or are unaffected by it, otherwise they would be aware of it. Taking something like Eplerenone if you are taking oral minoxidil helps to effectively mitigate the impact on water retention, and is a worthy sacrifice for those who want to grow thicker hair in particular areas, but may have insufficient SULT1A1 activity in their epidermis.
Shit argument.

TLDR:
Castor oil is minoxidil without the side effects. It's naturally occuring in nature, has been around for thousands of years, and wont bloat you. It also isnt dependant on an enzyme called "SULTA1A" for it to work.
No, it isn't. It is hardly comparable. One is an oil, the other is a pharmaceutical product. You are speaking like castor oil has the same efficacy as minoxidil. If that was the case, nobody would be using minoxidil.
How long castor oil has existed is irrelevant. No, it won't bloat you, just like topical minoxidil won't, so everybody should try it. SULT1A1 is not correlated with collagen, but treatments like microneedling, retinoids, etc., which many people on this forum use, help to indirectly increase SULT1A1 activity, so most people should have sufficient SULT1A1 activity in the epidermis for topical minoxidil to work effectively, and definitely better than castor oil.
Shit argument.

I don't understand the continued reference to minoxidil being a chemical, like you aren't ingesting chemicals, wearing artificial clothing, etc. You are not a cave man, and just because a product is a pharmaceutical, doesn't mean it's bad.
I addressed this stigma in your other thread, it's a horrendous reason against using minoxidil.

Because you will need to continue to use it for a long time, and hair growth will occur in other parts of your body.
So castor oil is just permanent growth then?? Also excessive hair growth occurs if i use oral minoxidil, not if i apply it topically to my scalp lol

Another incorrect argument.
Hair growth does not occur in other parts of your body unless the topical minoxidil goes systemic. Wtf, did you even care to actually research anything you said :feelskek:

Awesome, were using the word probably (meaning not factually based) in our arguments. Invalid! Next

Stopping minoxidil reverts hair to pre treatment over months bc of the natural hair cycle, not abrupt shifts in phase lengths. 60-75% of people confirm its efficacy.

Did you use ChatGPT for this reply? How about you actually take the time to respond to my posts rather than nitpick a single adjective?

You used ChatGPT for this though! I never mentioned that the phase lengths would abruptly change, but your telogen phase duration relative to your anagen phase duration will return to what it was pre-minoxidil, that does not mean you will lose hair necessarily.
I am not saying there won't be a decline in results, but to say that you will lose it all is just blatantly incorrect.

Caging. Still nitpicking an adjective which if I checked you probably used (or a synonym of) in your thread somewhere. If you knew anything about discourse surrounding pharmaceutical products and clinical literature, you are very rarely definitive unless there is undeniable proof of something being the case. I didn't care to research castor oil but let's be real, you are not seeing permanent changes to hair caliber as a result of a fucking oil.

And also isn't fucking effective, holy shit. I am going to DNR the remainder of your replies because you refuse to even attempt to refute some of my arguments.
Funny that I commented on how SULT1A1 enzyme activity can be increased to improve the efficacy of topical minoxidil, meaning no people on this forum (that use/do some of the things aforementioned) should have an issue with results from topical minoxidil due to insufficient SULT1A1 activity.

Stick to your hallucinated sources, subjective arguments, anecdotes, and other bullshit. You are a retard. Not replying anymore.

Find somewhere I claimed perm hair change? I simply believe it is better then minoxidil. The only case minox is better is A:

You have very naturally oily skin and you wont get dried out from topical, and you dont lack the enymze necessary for it to work
B: You take oral minox with an aldosterone-antagonist.

It is implied by the fact you mention results on hair caliber as a result of minoxidil usage will not be permanent, but omit mention of castor oil and its permanence on changes to hair caliber. Also implied by you taking issue with me using the adjective "probably" in my initial post responding to you commenting on this.
Edit: Mind you, you don't actually mention how castor oil works to increase hair caliber, either. Good one.

You have very naturally oily skin
What? Are you retarded? How is sebaceous gland activity related to SULT1A1 activity?
and you wont get dried out from topical,
How does topical minoxidil dry you out?

and you dont lack the enymze necessary for it to work
As aforementioned, you can increase SULT1A1 activity with particular products/procedures that many people on this forum use/get anyway. Fucking idiot.

B: You take oral minox with an aldosterone-antagonist.
