As a child I had emerald green eyes. Unfortunately my eye color changed over time and they have become very dark brown. I assume that the reason for the change in eye color is that the retina had accumulated a lot of melanin over time to protect itself from the sun. Similar in principle to what is otherwise the case with the skin. Our skin becomes tanner (this is the melanin) as a response to protect the skin from the sun.
Would it be possible to change the eye color back by depleting the melanin layer with lifestyle changes? Is there something that can break down melanin in the retina?
